With your roof being one of the most important pieces of your home, it needs to be in the best shape possible. Your roof can easily show signs that it needs to be replaced. It’s important to watch your roof for any signs that it may need maintenance or replacement. Continue reading to learn a few signs that it might be time to replace your roof.

1. Water Damage

If your roof is weak, it can easily lead to water damage in your attic or the upstairs of your home. A few indicators of water damage and a leak roof are moisture marks, brown, yellow, or gray stains, and peeling paint. If you spot any of these marks, call in a roofer to do a full inspection. They will be able to assess the damage and what you need to do to make your roof protected again.

2. How Old Your Roof Is

It’s important to know the age of your roof to know when it may be time to be replaced. If your roof is under 20 years old, you should have annual inspections done. If your roof is over 20 years old, you may need a complete replacement. The age that your roof typically needs a replacement depends on the material of your shingles. While your roof may seem like it is in good shape, only a qualified roof inspector can see if your roof needs replacement.

3. Sagging in Your Roof

If you see any sagging in your roof, it is a sign that there is trapped moisture that has rotted some of the boards under your roof. Any signs of sagging means your roof needs to be replaced before your home experiences any more damage.

4. Missing Shingles

Rain, snow, and strong winds can put a lot of strain on your roof and cause shingles to lift or fly off. Normally you can replace a shingle or two if you spot a couple missing. However, if you notice multiple shingles missing, it could require repair. If the shingles have been missing for a while, it could have caused damage underneath your roof.

5. Moss or Mold

Any moss or mold on your roof can be another sign of trapped moisture. This normally occurs on a shaded side of the roof that does not receive much sun. One way to get rid of it is by using a stiff brush very carefully. If you end up discovering more mold and moss, you could need a roof replacement to get rid of the mold and moss for good.
